Project Description

DAY OUT follows the story of Joe, a 40-something mechanic who finds himself in prison for the first time. DAY OUT explores how his wife and teenage daughter struggle without him, whilst joe tries to come to terms with his time inside, and the whole family strive to navigate their ‘new normal’.

DAY OUT is a live theatre performance followed by a facilitated discussion/workshop for the general population prisoners, which challenges the ‘culture of normality’ around Spice use, to promote abstinence and engagement in support services available whilst in prison.

DAY OUT was developed and delivered as part of NPP’s CLEAN project, supported by an HMPPS Innovation Grant Fund.

Co-written by the NPP Team, men in prison with lived experience, their family members & HMPPS Drug and Alcohol support teams, DAY OUT has engaged with over 1900 men in prison across the UK.
