Project Description
RELEASE is a live 50 minute theatre performance, followed by a facilitated workshop, specifically designed for long term prisoners with less than 3 years left of their sentence. Following the journey of 55 year old ‘Tony’ on his first home visit after serving 13 years in prison, RELEASE explores the highs, the lows, and complexities of resettlement as Tony, his wife, daughter and son try to adjust to life after prison.
Co-developed by the NPP Team, men in prison & their families, RELEASE eases the transition from custody to resettlement, promoting stronger family ties, increased service engagement & reduced re-offending.
“I am on home leaves myself and sometimes it gets really stressful, but it’s good to see things from both sides. This play has helped me understand “
Prisoner, aged 26, HMP Kirkham
“I am having a few problems with my daughter and family. I can see how hard it is for them now. I’ve never really thought about it like that before.”
Prisoner, aged 35, HMP Hindley
“I want to find the right things to do and say when I meet my relatives when I get out. I last saw them in 2000. It showed that it’s gonna be difficult for them too. We should just be honest about that and try and move on together”
Prisoner, aged 38, HMP Wymott
